Amedspor chief meets Galatasaray over Victor Osimhen promotion plan

Published on by

Victor Osimhen has emerged as a surprising focal point of high-level discussions between two Turkish clubs operating in very different worlds, Afrik-Foot reports.

Nahit Eren, president of second-tier leaders Amedspor, has confirmed holding direct talks with Galatasaray chairman Dursun Özbek, with the Nigerian striker’s growing impact in Turkey forming part of their conversation.

Amedspor currently sit top of the TFF 1. Lig and are pushing hard for promotion to the Super Lig, a rise that would bring them face to face with giants Galatasaray next season.

But Eren revealed that beyond competition, there was also a symbolic idea on the table.

Speaking on İlke TV via OdaTV, Eren said Özbek had spoken warmly about both Amedspor and the city of Diyarbakır.

He expressed that he highly values Diyarbakır and wants to bring Galatasaray to Diyarbakır. I told him, ‘Mr. President, we will meet in the Super League.'”

The Amedspor president explained that Osimhen, now one of the most recognisable footballers in the country, could play a role in strengthening that connection.

“For example, bringing Osimhen to Diyarbakır for promotional purposes, to show the feeling of solidarity, would be valuable. He was looking at the issue from this perspective to some extent.”

Victor Osimhen’s growing legacy in Turkey

Whether that vision becomes reality may depend on Osimhen’s future, with Arsenal, Juventus and Barcelona all reportedly monitoring the striker ahead of the summer transfer window.

His popularity in Turkey, however, is firmly rooted in performances rather than reputation alone.

Osimhen recently climbed into Galatasaray’s top four foreign goalscorers of all time after scoring in a 3–0 Super Lig win over Çaykur Rizespor. His 73rd-minute strike took his total to 52 goals, moving him past Bafétimbi Gomis.

Only Mauro Icardi, Gheorghe Hagi and Milan Baroš now sit ahead of him in the club’s foreign scoring chart.

The Super Eagles forward also holds Galatasaray’s single-season goals record for a foreign player, having struck 35 times in May 2025 to surpass Mario Jardel’s long-standing mark.

Promotion remains the priority for Amedspor. But for Galatasaray, and much of Turkish football, Victor Osimhen has already become a figure capable of shaping both results and relationships across the country.
