Angel Gomes: Ex-Manchester United star draws praise from Super Eagles striker

Super Eagles and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare has praised two of the club’s latest signings in Adam Armstrong and Angel Gomes, Afrik Foot reports.

Angel Gomes came in on the deadline day of the winter transfer window in a loan deal from French side Olympique Marseile. The 25-year-old has played for Boavista, LOSC Lille and Marseille since departing Manchester United in 2020.

His debut was a memorable one at Old Trafford as he replaced Wayne Rooney as a 16-year-old back in 2017, becoming United’s youngest debutant since Duncan Edwards, and the first player to play in the Premier League born in 2000 when Jose Mourinho was at the helm of affairs.

Adam Armstrong also joined the Wanderers from EFL Championship side Southampton.

Arokodare: Super Eagles striker lauds Wolves’ debutants

Adam Armstrong and Angel Gomes were thrust into the starting eleven to face Chelsea at the Molineux on Saturday.

While Armstrong played all 90 minutes, the ex-Manchester United midfielder Gomes was forced off in the 80th minute with an injury.

Cole Palmer’s hat-trick meant Arokodare’s goal could only be a consolation for Rob Edwards’ team, but the performance of the debutants was a positive for the Super Eagles striker.

“I think we all saw them today – they were both exceptional,” the former KRC Genk striker said in quotes revealed by Wolves official website.

“That shows the quality they bring to the team. I’m very, very happy for them on their debuts for the team, how they played, how they performed.

“They played like they’ve been here the whole season, like they’ve been training with us the whole season.

“You can see how they blended in well, they’ve been amazing in training, and hopefully more of this is to come from them,” Arokodare concluded.

Wolves can secure hope for a Premier League stay if they secure a win against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
