“Been a difficult time” – Aribo targets Leicester fresh start after tough Southampton spell

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has spoken about his tough spell at Southampton after joining Leicester City till the end of the season, Afrik Foot reports.

The 29-year-old played 32 league games for the Saints last season in the English top-flight before they were relegated to the EFL Championship.

Will still took over the reins at St Mary’s and made it clear that Aribo wasn’t a part of his plans, limiting the former Rangers midfielder to just 111 minutes off the bench across all competitions this season.

Aribo delighted to join Leicester from Southampton

Aribo’s Southampton deal runs out in the summer, and with a renewal not in the books, the onus fell on the Nigerian to force a move in a bid to salvage something for himself during the summer transfer window.

Enter Leicester City. Andy King’s side are currently 17th on the Championship table, with little hope of promotion.

However, the Foxes also want to avoid a drop into Sky Bet League One, hence their venture in the transfer market, seeking experienced legs, and the decision delighted Aribo.

“For me, it’s amazing to have got it done, and I just can’t wait to get going. I’ve always known the squad is good,” the former Charlton Athletic midfielder told Leicester City’s official website.

“Honestly, [the facilities are] unbelievable. It just takes your breath away, almost. I can’t wait to get started. It’s a great Club.

“I’m so certain about where we can get to and what we can do together. It’s just good to be a part of it.

“It’s been a difficult season with not much playing time, so I’m excited to be back out there and get firing again.

“It’s important for me to prove a point and be my best self every single day.

“I’m willing to take risks, exciting on the ball, and I’ll try and pop up with a few goals as well. I always joke with my friends that I can play anywhere.

“It’s so important for me to bring that joy. I want to be able to feel that [atmosphere] but on the right side of the coin. I felt it on the opposite side, and it was difficult, but the fans are really good.

“I’m really excited. I’ve always known the squad is good. I’ve watched games, and I’m so certain about where we can get to and what we can do together. It’s just good to be a part of it and join in.

“When I used to go away on internationals, Kelechi [Iheanacho] used to always be talking about the Club. Even Wilf [Ndidi]. He’s a bit quieter, but Kelechi was always making jokes and always letting us know how good the ground is, how good the Club is.

“I’m really excited. I can’t wait to get started. I’m just ready to get going,” Aribo concluded.
