Former Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo will not be included in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming friendlies against Jordan and Iran in late March, Afrik-Foot reports.
Okonkwo has been a consistent presence between the sticks since joining Wrexham from Arsenal two years ago.
He played a pivotal role in the club’s promotion from League One to the Championship. This season, he has maintained his elite form, appearing in 34 of Wrexham’s 37 matches and recording nine clean sheets.

Given his impressive performances, there have been growing calls for Okonkwo to be integrated into the Nigerian national team to challenge for the starting spot.
However, his transition has been delayed by the fact that the 24-year-old represented England at the youth level.
To represent Nigeria, Okonkwo must undergo an official FIFA switch of allegiance. Despite recent media speculation suggesting a call-up was imminent for the March window, it appears fans will have to wait.
Why Arthur Okonkwo is Currently Ineligible For The Super Eagles

FIFA maintains a database of players who have successfully changed their sporting nationality. In the most recent updates from football’s governing body, Okonkwo’s name is notably absent.
This means he is not yet eligible to represent Nigeria in a competitive or FIFA-recognized capacity. If he were to feature now, the matches would not be officially recognized.

The specific reason for the delay remains unclear. Notably, Okonkwo has yet to publicly confirm his intent to switch from England to Nigeria, suggesting the administrative process may not have even begun.
Regardless, the Super Eagles still boast several capable goalkeepers on the roster who are ready to perform if Okonkwo remains unavailable.
