Super Falcons player Gift Monday has expressed her admiration for teammate Asisat Oshoala.
The 22-year-old Super Falcons player, in a recent interview, highlighted Oshoala's exceptional qualities both on and off the pitch.
Since June 2023, the Akwa Ibom-born forward has been a part of the Super Falcons and was a member of the squad that participated in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. She has made 10 appearances for the Super Falcons, scoring two goals.
Currently plying her trade in Spain with Liga F side UD Granadilla Tenerife, Monday unfortunately missed out on Randy Waldrum's final squad for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games but was named among the alternate players.
Asisat Oshoala's influence: Inspiring on and off the pitch
In an interview with Spanish outlet AS, Monday emphasised that Oshoala's inspiring presence enhances her football skills, physical fitness, and mental strength, truly making her a legend in every sense.
“She (Asisat Oshoala) is inspiring, a legend who helps you do things better. She is very humble and is always willing to teach you to grow. Being by her side improves you football-wise, physically and mentally… In every sense,” she said.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Bay FC forward, Oshoala, was an unused substitute as the Super Falcons suffered a 1-0 defeat to Brazil in their Paris 2024 Group C opener on Thursday. She is expected to play a role in Nigeria's next game against the reigning FIFA Women's World Champions, Spain, on Sunday, July 28.
Since making her debut for the Super Falcons in 2013, Oshoala has amassed 61 caps and scored 37 goals. She has also won the African Women's Footballer of the Year award a record six times.
