After a lengthy wait, Nigeria’s women’s national team has finally achieved lift-off in 2025.
The nine-time African champions defeated Cameroon in an international friendly on June 3, 2025, thanks to a brace from captain Rasheedat Ajibade. They followed that up with a draw against European side Portugal on June 23, before defeating bitter rivals Ghana on June 29 and heading off to the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Following their group-stage exit at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Nigeria’s Super Falcons returned to action with renewed direction under interim coach Justin Madugu, appointed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to lead the team after Randy Waldrum’s departure.
Since Madugu began his tenure, the Super Falcons have claimed a number of eye-catching victories, culminating in the comeback win over Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in July.
