Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman is reportedly close to securing a lucrative extension with Atalanta that would raise his annual earnings to €3.5 million, solidifying his place as one of the club's top earners.
This would nearly double his current salary, reflecting Atalanta’s determination to retain him amid growing interest from top European clubs.
Since joining from Leicester City, Lookman has become a star player under Gian Piero Gasperini, whose coaching has highlighted Lookman’s growth and adaptability.
This season, Lookman has elevated his game, scoring 12 goals and making five assists in just 13 matches, a performance that not only strengthens Atalanta’s competitive edge but also underscores his growing status in European football.
Atalanta keen to ward off European interest for CAF POTY contender
Lookman’s stellar performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting attention from heavyweights such as PSG, Arsenal, and Manchester United last summer.
Atalanta, however, have remained firm in their stance, rebuffing all overtures. According to club sources, discussions are ongoing to extend Lookman’s contract past 2026, with the new offer including attractive bonuses and incentives.
The Super Eagles forward is also in contention for the CAF African Player of the Year award, joining a shortlist of 10 players, including Algeria’s Amine Gouiri and Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba.
Lookman’s 33 goal contributions last season, combined with his current form, have positioned him as a leading contender for the honor.
