Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has played himself into trouble again after clashing with Atalanta manager Ivan Juric during their 1–0 victory over Marseille in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
The 28-year-old was withdrawn in the 75th minute for Yunus Musah and appeared visibly upset as he made his way to the bench. Lookman muttered a few words in Juric’s direction, prompting an angry reaction from the Croatian tactician. The situation briefly escalated before members of Atalanta’s backroom staff stepped in to calm things down.
Despite the sideline drama, Atalanta secured all three points at the Stade Vélodrome courtesy of a late strike from Lazar Samardzic. The match could have produced more goals, but both teams were wasteful in front of goal. Charles De Ketelaere saw his first-half penalty saved, while Lookman’s earlier effort was ruled out for offside after VAR intervention.

Juric downplays scuffle with unhappy Lookman
After the game, Juric attempted to ease the tension by describing the altercation as something that happens “in the heat of the moment.” He explained that Lookman’s reaction was no different from what many players experience when substituted, insisting that the matter would be resolved internally.
“It happens everywhere, emotions run high during games,” Juric said post-match. “What matters is the team and the result. These things stay in the locker room.”

Lookman’s frustration comes amid a turbulent period in his Atalanta career. The Nigerian international was keen on a move away during the summer transfer window but was ultimately forced to stay. His form has reflected that uncertainty, with only one goal to his name this season.
Both player and manager will now hope to put the incident behind them as Atalanta continue their European campaign.
