Ahmed Musa’s brilliant form so far in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has reignited hot debates about his potential return to the Super Eagles.
Former Nigeria international and 1996 Olympic gold medallist Garba Lawal has weighed in, commending the 32-year-old’s remarkable performances and leadership at Kano Pillars.
Since rejoining the Sai Masu Gida for a third spell in October, Musa has been in remarkable form, finding the net five times in the current campaign.
According to Lawal, his hunger and determination prove he still possesses the qualities needed at the highest level.
Can Ahmed Musa return to the Super Eagles?
Beyond his goal-scoring feats, Musa’s impact has been transformative for Kano Pillars. The team remains unbeaten in their last four matches, with Musa playing a key role in their rise to sixth place on the NPFL table with 19 points from 13 games.
Despite his last appearance for the national team during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, Lawal believes Musa’s form makes a strong case for a Super Eagles return.
However, he emphasised that the ultimate decision rests with interim coach Augustine Eguavoen.
“Musa has done well since returning to Kano Pillars. Scoring goals consistently in a tough league like the NPFL is no small feat. It reflects his hunger for the game and his determination to prove he still belongs at the highest level.
“We all know the challenges of playing in the NPFL. Despite these, he has scored five goals already. For me, that’s remarkable. There’s no doubt Musa has positively impacted his teammates, especially the younger players.
“It’s not every day you have a player of his calibre in the NPFL. The young players would have learnt valuable lessons from his passion and dedication to the game. He is a true role model,” Lawal said, as quoted by CompletSports.
