Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi netted his first-ever FA Cup goal in Nottingham Forest’s dramatic fourth-round victory over Exeter City at St James Park.
The tie ended 2-2 after extra time, but Forest advanced 4-2 on penalties under Nuno Espirito Santo's guidance.
Awoniyi broke his FA Cup duck in his fourth appearance in the competition, scoring in the 37th minute with a powerful left-footed strike from outside the box.

His goal had given Forest a 2-1 lead after Ramón Sosa’s equalizer had canceled out Josh Magennis’ early opener for Exeter. However, an own goal by Willy-Arnaud Boly leveled the match at 2-2, forcing extra time.
Awoniyi’s impressive outing cut short by injury
The former Liverpool youngster was a constant threat throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch. He registered four shots on target, with one effort blocked, and completed 70% of his passes (7/10).
His movement off the ball created key opportunities, including one crucial pass leading to a near assist. The 27-year-old also completed his only dribble attempt and contributed defensively, winning one ground duel and contesting five aerial duels.
However, his night was marred by a concerning injury in extra time. The Nigerian forward suffered a heavy clash of heads with Exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth in the 103rd minute.
Awoniyi was stretchered off, prompting fears over his fitness. Chris Wood replaced him as Forest pushed on to seal victory in the shootout.
This goal marks Awoniyi’s second of the 2024/25 season, with his first coming in a 3-0 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The extent of his injury remains unclear, but Forest and Nigerian fans will be hoping for a swift recovery ahead of crucial fixtures.
