Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has opened up about the challenges he has faced in recent weeks, following a period of injury and limited playing time.

The 36-year-old Nigeria defender, who recently returned to action after missing Rangers' 1-1 draw with Olympiacos in the Europa League, admitted that the last few weeks have been tough for him.

Balogun revealed that he had not played for nearly two months, only to get involved in four games within ten days.

While he stated that he wasn't complaining, he acknowledged that it has taken a toll on him and emphasised the importance of proper management to avoid more injuries.

He explained that the rest he received on Thursday came in good time, even though he wanted to play.

Balogun made a successful return to the starting XI on Sunday, playing a crucial role in Rangers' narrow 1-0 victory over Hearts at Ibrox Stadium over the weekend.

The Nigeria international featured for the full 90 minutes, delivering an impressive display for a player recently returning from injury.

In the match, Balogun was the most accurate passer (94%) of any player to play 45 minutes or more, completing 79 touches of the ball, with three key passes in the final third.

He also contributed defensively, making 10 clearances, one interception, and one recovery while winning two aerial duels.

Speaking to Rangers TV shortly after that, the defender said, “I have found the last few weeks challenging. I hadn’t played for nearly two months, and then we have had four games in ten days.

“I am not complaining, but it takes its toll, and you have to be managed well, and that’s why the breather I got on Thursday came at a good time, even though I wanted to play.

“I am really happy; we have had some good performances, and I am enjoying being back in the team.”
