Barcelona set to dump Osimhen, Alvarez for 23yo Bundesliga striker

Barcelona’s search for a new striker has taken a fresh turn, with growing interest in Fisnik Asllani potentially reshaping the club’s transfer plans this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Catalans are preparing for life after Robert Lewandowski, whose contract is due to expire in June 2026. For months, the focus had been on high-profile names like Julián Álvarez and Victor Osimhen. But recent developments suggest Barcelona could now move in a different direction.

Asllani, 23, has emerged as a serious option. His agent has confirmed that contact has already been made, according to Sports Mole.

The Kosovo international, who plays for TSG Hoffenheim, has impressed this season with nine goals and eight assists in 28 appearances. Those numbers, combined with his physical presence and mobility, have caught the attention of several top clubs.

Standing at 6ft 3in, Asllani offers a different kind of threat. He is strong in the air, comfortable linking play, and capable of stretching defences. His performances in the Bundesliga have shown steady improvement, while his international record with Kosovo adds to his growing reputation.

What makes the deal more attractive is the reported release clause of around €25m. In a market where elite strikers often cost more than €80m, that figure stands out. Barcelona, still working within financial limits, see this as a practical opportunity to strengthen their squad without overspending.

However, they are not alone. Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are all said to be monitoring the situation. That competition could yet influence Barcelona’s next move.

Barcelona could sideline Osimhen and Álvarez

Barcelona’s interest in Asllani could see them move away from big-money targets like Álvarez and Osimhen.

Álvarez had been seen as the ideal signing. The Argentine forward fits Barcelona’s style with his intelligence, movement and versatility. The club were reportedly willing to spend up to €100m to secure his services. But Atlético Madrid’s firm stance against selling to a direct rival has made the deal difficult.

At the same time, Osimhen remains a strong alternative. The Nigerian striker has been in outstanding form, scoring 56 goals in 70 games since joining Galatasaray. His pace, power and finishing ability make him one of the most feared forwards in Europe.

Yet both options come with challenges. Álvarez may simply be unavailable, while Osimhen’s price, potentially rising well above €80m, raises concerns. There are also questions within Barcelona about whether his playing style fully suits their traditional approach.

This is where Asllani becomes important. He may not carry the same global profile, but he represents a lower-risk investment with room to grow. For a club trying to rebuild and plan for the future, that balance between cost and potential is key.

Barcelona are now weighing their options carefully. A move for Asllani would signal a shift in thinking and strategy at Barcelona. Instead of chasing the biggest names, the club could prioritise value, development and long-term planning.

If that happens, players like Osimhen and Álvarez may no longer be central to Barcelona’s plans. And in a summer expected to define the club’s next phase, that decision could shape their future for years to come.
