Ahead of Benin's clash with Nigeria on Monday, Benin manager Gernot Rohr has decided to abandon his revenge plans against the Super Eagles.
Instead, the German trainer has chosen to praise the current squad, hailing the Super Eagles as a “great” team.
Rohr, it will be recalled, was appointed the manager of the Super Eagles in 2016 and remained at the helm until 2021 when he was relieved of his position.
Rohr's Benin side is third in the Group C table with four points, while the Super Eagles are placed fifth with three points.
Gernot Rohr: Why not dream against Super Eagles?
Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Sunday ahead of Monday's game, the 70-year-old emphasised that his team is prepared and confident following their recent performances.
“We've been here (Abidjan) practically two weeks,” Rohr said in his press conference per Beninese publication bjfoot. “We were not complete but we were able to prepare for the two matches. We have the chance to play here tomorrow against Nigeria, a high-level match.

“We know it’s a great team. We are outsiders. There is no revenge to be taken.
“We want to play and win this match, as we want to win against everyone. We had a victory which gave us confidence last Thursday. Nigeria played on Friday, they drew. When you see the ranking, we see that it is very, very balanced.
“Everyone still has a say. So we too have the right to dream. Even if we know that tomorrow is not going to be easy. But we believe in it. I think we have found a balance since March, where we have already had a good match against the former African champions and the current African champions. So why not have a good match tomorrow against Nigeria?”
Since assuming office as the manager of the Cheetahs in February 2023, Gernot Rohr has supervised 11 games, winning two, drawing five, and losing four.
