Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface is poised for his highly anticipated return, as confirmed by Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.
Boniface, who has been sidelined since early November with a muscle injury sustained during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Eagles and Rwanda, has joined the Leverkusen squad for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
Despite early expectations for his return at the start of the year, Boniface experienced a setback during rehabilitation, sidelining him for consecutive matches against Borussia Dortmund, FSV Mainz, and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

However, after completing a full training session on Monday, he is now poised to make his comeback on Tuesday.
Alonso confirms Boniface's readiness for Champions League showdown
Xabi Alonso provided an encouraging update on Victor Boniface’s recovery ahead of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid. Speaking to the press on Monday, as reported by the club's official website, Alonso said.
“Victor had a good feeling during the final training session this afternoon. He has traveled with the team and will be in the squad tomorrow.”
Prior to his injury, the 24-year-old was one of Leverkusen's standout performers, netting eight goals and providing one assist in 15 appearances.

However, since his absence, Patrik Schick has stepped up, displaying his best form. While it may prove challenging for Boniface to displace Schick in the starting lineup, the Spanish manager could explore ways to accommodate both players in the first XI.
His return will provide a significant boost to Die Werkself, especially following the injury to Martin Terrier, who is set to miss the remainder of the season.
