Victor Boniface is attracting attention off the pitch in Germany after a controversial social media post, which even caught the eye of global superstar Drake.

The Canadian rapper commented on the striker’s remarks and later sent him a branded OVO bag, thrusting the Nigeria international further into the spotlight.

The message at the centre of the storm appeared on Snapchat, and critics swiftly branded Boniface's statement a disrespectful to women.

Per FrankfurterRundschau, BILD, Germany’s largest tabloid, attempted to contact the player to clarify his comments. The 24-year-old, however, did not respond to their inquiries, continuing a recent pattern of cryptic online activity that has left many puzzled.

Victor Boniface’s scorecard so far at Bremen

Boniface joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen this summer after potential moves to Saudi Arabia and AC Milan collapsed. His arrival carried weighty expectations, but he has yet to make a jawbreaking impression on the pitch.

So far, the forward has logged just 45 minutes across two substitute appearances. He provided an assist in Bremen’s 4-0 win over Gladbach, but his display in the 3-0 defeat to Freiburg drew criticism.

Head coach Horst Steffen remarked that he was “too everywhere” and urged him to focus more centrally.

Despite the subdued start, Werder officials remain optimistic. Managing director Clemens Fritz described him as a key reinforcement and stressed that his role will grow as he adapts.

Steffen also indicated that Boniface’s playing time will gradually increase, though he emphasised the need for sharper positional discipline in attack.
