Bradley Barcola hands in PSG transfer request – What it means for Victor Osimhen

Published on by

Victor Osimhen’s proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain might finally happen this summer after French winger Bradley Barcola expressed his desire to leave the French club, Afrik Foot reports.

Despite only joining Galatasaray for €75m, a Turkish record fee last summer, the 27-year-old striker has been linked with a move to the top guns in Europe’s top-five leagues, PSG included.

Barcola, meanwhile, has scored 39 goals and provided 35 assists for Luis Enrique’s side since joining from Lyon in 2023. While he’s a very good dribbler and a creative player, his profligacy in front of goal has seen him lose his place in the starting lineup to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Bradley Barcola wants to leave PSG

Barcola has been one of PSG’s most important attacking outlets over the last two seasons. However, the decrease in his playing time in the second half of the season might have triggered the winger to seek minutes elsewhere.

According to The Mirror UK, Barcola has expressed a desire to leave PSG this summer, putting clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal on alert, with both sides in search of creative wingers.

Standard UK also reports that Paris Saint-Germain are open to the winger’s exit, but are demanding fees in the region of €130m (£112m). However, neither of the interested parties are willing to pay that amount.

PSG head coach Luis Enrique made it clear last year that it was his preference for Barcola to remain at the club.

“Bradley Barcola’s future? I have no doubt he’ll remain our player.

“We like the fact that our players are interesting to other clubs. But he’s one of those young players we’ve been banking on. I expect him to play here for many more years.”

The ex-Lyon attacker is expected to make a choice regarding his future immediately after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and a transfer request might force PSG and Luis Enrique to reconsider their stance.

What Barcola’s request means for Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen was previously linked with a move to PSG during his time in Italy. Napoli’s President Aurelien De Laurentiis confirmed that the two-time UEFA Champions League winners submitted a 200 million euro bid for the Nigerian striker and Kvaratskhelia, which was rejected.

The Georgian eventually moved to Parc des Princes, while Osimhen joined Galatasaray, and they’ve gone on to win trophies with their respective clubs.

However, with Barcola on the way out, PSG might rekindle their interest in the 2023 CAF Player of the Year.

Osimhen tracks back from the front, presses relentlessly, is an asset in the air and knows how to score goals, all of which are features that Luis Enrique has built his philosophy on.

Should Bradley Barcola decide to make a move to the Premier League, Kvara and Desire Doue are left-wing options for Paris Saint-Germain, while Ousmane Dembele and Kang-In Lee are options for the right, leaving a path for Osimhen to thrive with Le Parisien while Goncalo Ramos remains an option from the bench.

To pull that off, the Record Ligue 1 Champions would need to spend well over €100m on the Nigerian, a fee they can easily fork out, if Barcola moves.

Adapting to the French league wouldn’t be a problem for Osimhen, who previously played for LOSC Lille before making his big-money move to Napoli in 2020.
