Calvin Bassey: Super Eagles rock falls short in Fulham’s WrestleMania showdown

Published on by

Calvin Bassey may be one of the Premier League’s most physically imposing defenders, but even he found himself outmuscled when Fulham teammate Adama Traoré challenged him to a friendly wrestling face-off in the dressing room.

The Nigeria international, known for shrugging off attackers with ease, met his match in Traoré whose 86kg frame and bodybuilder physique proved too much in a brief but intense tussle that ended with the 25-year-old on the floor.

Traoré, grinning after the win, confirmed what many suspected; he might just be the strongest man in Marco Silva’s squad.

His surprise defeat drew laughs, especially considering how dominant he’s been on the pitch. Earlier in the season, he sent Tottenham’s Cristian Romero flying in a shoulder challenge that drew raucous cheers from the Craven Cottage faithful, one of many moments that have made him a fan favourite.

What next for bowled-over Calvin Bassey?

Despite the dressing room setback, Bassey remains central to Fulham’s defensive structure. His strength, composure, and recovery pace have helped Silva’s side boast the eighth-best defensive record in the league.

As Fulham prepare to face Everton this weekend, the Super Eagles defender will once again be tasked with anchoring the backline.

With just three matches left, Bassey’s presence will be vital if Fulham are to reignite their push for European qualification.

Wrestling loss or not, the real battles await on the pitch where he continues to thrive.
