Calvin Bassey: 3 clubs that could sign Super Eagles star for free in 2027

Published on by

Calvin Bassey could leave Fulham for free in 2027, with several top European clubs poised to pursue the Super Eagles defender if his contract situation remains unresolved.

Bassey joined Fulham from Ajax in July 2023 for €22.5 million, signing a four-year deal that runs until June 30, 2027. However, the Premier League club have the option to extend his contract by another year.

The 26-year-old has established himself at Craven Cottage and was named Fulham’s Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign.

Fulham are reportedly keen to offer him a new long-term deal, while Bassey is said to be happy in west London and open to staying if the terms suit him.

Inter Milan are among the clubs reportedly keeping tabs on the defender. If negotiations with Fulham break down and the club decide against activating his extension option, three potential destinations could emerge.

Clubs that could target Fulham’s Calvin Bassey

Inter Milan

Inter Milan could make a move for Bassey if Calvin Bassey becomes available on a free transfer.

The Italian club’s three-man defence could suit the Nigerian, who has the pace and physical strength to play on the left of a back three or in a central role.

Calvin Bassey is also comfortable bringing the ball out from defence, a quality that could appeal to Inter as they look to strengthen their backline.

Signing him without paying a transfer fee would give the Serie A side an opportunity to add a Premier League-proven defender to their squad at a lower overall cost.

Fenerbahçe

Fenerbahçe could also look to bring Bassey to Turkey if his time at Fulham comes to an end.

The Istanbul club have ambitions of competing among the top dogs in Europe and could offer the defender an attractive package.

Bassey’s experience in the Premier League and European competitions would count in his favour. His ability to play on the left side of central defence could also make him a useful addition to the Turkish side.

However, wages and Fulham’s willingness to let him go would be key factors in determining whether a deal is possible.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton could be another option for Bassey if he decides against signing a new contract at Fulham.

The Seagulls have recruited defenders with the technical ability to play out from the back, and Bassey’s strength, pace and experience in English football could make him a suitable candidate.

At 26, the Nigerian still has several years ahead of him at the top level. Brighton could strengthen their defensive options without paying a transfer fee if he becomes available in 2027.
