Immovable Calvin Bassey is Fulham’s MVP, but where did Alex Iwobi finish?

An outstanding campaign by Super Eagles centre-back Calvin Bassey has seen him named Fulham’s player of the 2024/25 season.

The 25-year-old was the standout performer in a Cottagers’ side that finished the Premier League campaign in 11th, and made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.

The award, decided upon by popular voting by the club’s fans on a five-man shortlist, saw the former Rangers and Ajax man poll 39.6% of the total votes cast, over 18 percentage points higher than the second-place finisher and compatriot Alex Iwobi. Antonee Robinson, Bernd Leno and Sasa Lukic, in that order, rounded out the top five.

Best season of Calvin Bassey’s career so far

While there were only two goals to speak of, the 2024/25 season was a real coming-of-age campaign for Bassey.

The powerful centre-back built on an occasionally patchy debut year, properly coming into his own as one of the finest defenders in the Premier League, both with and without the ball. His viral shove on Tottenham defender Cristian Romero served notice of his physicality, but it was in his ball-carrying and usage that he most stood out.

He was also instrumental in Fulham’s run to the FA Cup quarter-finals, memorably scoring in the Fifth Round elimination of Manchester United.
