Ajax could lose out on €540,000 if Calvin Bassey leaves Fulham on a free transfer when his contract expires.
The Dutch club included a 10% sell-on clause in the deal that took the Super Eagles defender to Fulham in July 2023 for a reported €22.5 million. Under the agreement, Ajax are entitled to 10% of the profit Fulham make from selling the Nigerian defender.
If Bassey leaves when his contract expires, however, Ajax will receive nothing from the clause because Fulham will not collect a transfer fee.
Bassey spent one season at Ajax after joining from Rangers in 2022 before moving to the Premier League. Fulham paid a reported €22.5 million for the defender, and they could make a profit if they sell him for more than that amount.

A sale for €27.9 million, for example, would give Fulham a gross profit of €5.4 million before other relevant costs. Ajax’s 10% share would be worth €540,000, per Football Transfers.
How a free transfer would cost Ajax €540,000
Ajax’s chances of receiving that money depend on Fulham selling Calvin Bassey before his contract expires.
If the 26-year-old Super Eagles star leaves as a free agent, Fulham will receive no transfer fee, leaving no profit from the sale to share with Ajax under the reported agreement.

The Amsterdam club would therefore miss out on the €540,000 they could have earned from a €27.9 million transfer.
Ajax negotiated the sell-on clause when they sold Bassey to Fulham in 2023, giving them a chance to benefit if the defender commands a higher fee in the future.
If Fulham cannot sell Bassey before his contract expires, Ajax could lose the chance to earn more money from the defender’s move to England.
