Chelsea vs Tottenham: Preview, h2h, team news, predictions as London’s big spenders clash

Published on by

Former Premier League champions Chelsea will wecolme Tottenham to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in a high-stakes league game. The two London clubs spent heavily last summer, but Spurs who splashed more are yet to get the result of their summer investments.

This is a traditional London derby, as while the Blues are the pride of West London, Spurs are the far less successful of the two prominent North London clubs.

The match kicks off at Stamford Bridge at 5:30pm Nigerian time, with the Blues fourth in the table on 13 points and Tottenham 16th on six after seven games each.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Form and Context

Tottenham’s win over Coventry on October 19 was their first of the Premier League season, arriving at the seventh attempt and lifting them off the bottom of the table.

James Maddison opened the scoring after 14 minutes, Coventry levelled early in the second half through Rudoni, and Marmoush and Ben Davies then completed the win.

Dejan Kulusevski, the Sweden international, also returned from the bench after 526 days out with a knee injury, which gives Roberto De Zerbi another attacking option.

Away from home the picture is far weaker, with a 3-0 defeat at Brentford and draws at Nottingham Forest and Manchester United leaving Spurs with two points from nine.

They also lost 3-1 at Liverpool in the EFL Cup on September 15, so Tottenham have scored two goals in four away games in all competitions this season.

Chelsea have won four and drawn one of their five home games in all competitions, scoring 19 goals, a run that includes a 6-3 EFL Cup win over Leeds on September 9.

In the league they beat Bournemouth 5-1 on October 10 and Brighton 4-3 on August 30, and Hull held them to a 2-2 draw on September 12.

On their travels Xabi Alonso’s side won 3-2 at Fulham, lost at Arsenal and Brentford, then beat Everton 2-0 on October 17 for their first league clean sheet in 23 games.

Pedro Neto scored both goals at Everton, his first Premier League brace, and Joao Pedro leads the club with five league goals, one ahead of Morgan Rogers.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Head-to-Head Record

The Blues have won the last six league meetings, scoring 14 goals and conceding five, and Spurs have scored in only three of those six games.

The reverse fixture on November 1, 2025 finished Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea, and the latest meeting was a 2-1 Chelsea win at Stamford Bridge on May 19, 2026.

Across all competitions The Blues lead 83 wins to 56 with 42 draws in 181 meetings, though those older results are background rather than a guide to Saturday.

Tottenham did win a pre-season friendly 2-1 in Sydney on August 1, a result that carries little competitive weight.

Tottenham are without Rodrigo Bentancur, who is suspended for this game after a red card at Manchester United on October 10.

Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall, Savio and Mykhailo Mudryk are all injured, and Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are doubts.

Tosin Adarabioyo and Andy Robertson both came off against Coventry, but De Zerbi said there is no problem for Saturday.

The Managers: Xabi Alonso vs Roberto De Zerbi

Xabi Alonso was appointed Chelsea head coach on May 16, 2026 on a four-year contract, after winning an unbeaten Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24 and being sacked by Real Madrid in January.

De Zerbi took over Tottenham on March 31, 2026 on a reported five-year deal, replacing interim head coach Igor Tudor, having previously managed Brighton from 2022 to 2024 and Marseille.

Alonso’s Chelsea have won four, drawn one and lost two of their seven league games, while De Zerbi’s Spurs have won one, drawn three and lost three.

Tactical Preview

The West Londoners are expected to use a 3-4-2-1, with Neto and Hato out wide and Palmer and Rogers behind Joao Pedro, a shape that has produced 11 goals in three league games at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1, with Sandro Tonali and Archie Gray protecting the back four and Marmoush, Maddison and Kudus supporting Dominic Solanke.

Chelsea have conceded 13 league goals in seven games, so three attackers running at a back three with Penders behind it is where Spurs can hurt them.

Tottenham’s problem is the other end, where they have conceded 10 league goals and kept only two clean sheets, both in goalless draws.
