Chidera Ejuke: Why Sevilla are finding it difficult to sell Nigeria star to Anderlecht

Super Eagles attacker Chidera Ejuke is among the players expected to leave Sevilla this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

​His compatriot, Akor Adams, already moved to Venezia earlier in the summer in a deal worth €16 million, plus potential €7 million in bonuses.

However, Ejuke’s situation has proven to be more protracted, with the winger linked to several clubs across the Saudi Pro League, the Premier League, and the Belgian Pro League.

​Just yesterday, Sevilla’s sporting director, Jose Ignacio Navarro, confirmed that the Super Eagles star has indeed drawn significant interest, which is why he was left out of the club’s pre-season training camps in Germany and the Netherlands.

​Amid all the speculation, former Belgian champions Anderlecht have emerged as the most serious suitors for the tricky, pacy Nigerian. However, even though talks began last month, both sides have yet to reach a compromise.

​With just over two weeks remaining until the summer transfer window closes, Sevilla and Ejuke find themselves in a tight spot. In truth, the Spanish club desperately needs the funds from his sale; otherwise, they risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Why Chidera Ejuke’s Proposed Anderlecht Transfer Has Not Worked

​Two weeks ago, reports emerged that Anderlecht had tabled a €3.5 million bid for the 28-year-old winger.

Ordinarily, had everything gone according to plan, Ejuke would have been wearing an Anderlecht shirt by now.

​Meanwhile, updates from Anderlecht Update indicate that Sevilla have already accepted the €3.5 million offer. The only hurdle holding up the transfer is the player’s personal salary demands.

​Ejuke currently earns a gross salary of €1.88 million per year at Sevilla — substantially more than Anderlecht’s highest earner, Ludwig Augustinsson, who takes home €1.3 million annually.

​Consequently, if the Belgian club wants to secure his signature, they would have to make him their highest-paid player, a move that could severely disrupt their wage structure.

Also, with interest looming from other clubs, Ejuke may be holding out for a more lucrative financial package as Anderlecht remain reluctant to budge.

​Ultimately, Sevilla will be eager to expedite his departure to balance their books, especially now that the new La Liga season has already begun.
