Chukwueze: Is Turkish interest worth considering for struggling Milan star?

As speculation continues to mount about the future of Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze at AC Milan, reports have emerged that Turkish side Besiktas are interested in signing him.

Chukwueze moved from Villarreal to Milan in the summer of 2023 but has struggled to settle at the club and has yet to secure a regular starting spot.

The 25-year-old played 207 matches for the ‘Yellow Submarines,’ scoring 37 goals and delivering 31 assists, performances that persuaded Milan to bring him to the San Siro.

However, it has not been smooth sailing for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner.

This season, he has made 21 appearances across all competitions, primarily as a substitute, scoring three goals and registering one assist.

This apparent lack of impact has not impressed the Milan hierarchy, who are reportedly considering moving the player on, either on loan or through a permanent transfer.

What Chukwueze could bring to Besiktas?

This season has not been the best for Besiktas, who find themselves in unfamiliar territory in the Turkish Super League.

Currently sixth on the table with 26 points from 16 games, they trail league leaders and rivals Galatasaray by a staggering 18 points.

Counted among the ‘big three’ in Turkey alongside Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, Besiktas have struggled in recent campaigns.

They have scored just 25 goals this season, compared to Galatasaray’s and Fenerbahce’s 40 goals each, prompting fans to call for reinforcements to improve their attacking options.

Chukwueze, known for his direct style of play, could excel on the wings and create chances for the team’s top scorer, Ciro Immobile.

Although a different type of forward than Immobile and Rafa Silva—who have scored 11 goals between them this season for Besiktas—Chukwueze’s addition could bring more versatility and firepower to the squad.

The Nigerian’s trickery and ability to unlock defences would benefit the team greatly, as would his crosses, which the forwards could capitalize on.
