Crystal Palace shut door on Christantus Uche permanent transfer

FA Cup Champions Crystal Palace have ruled out the possibility of signing Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche on a permanent deal, Afrik Foot reports.

The 22-year-old joined the Eagles on loan from Spanish side Getafe with a clause that would have made the move permanent if certain conditions were met.

However, that option will not be triggered after it became mathematically impossible for Uche to meet the required threshold of ten Premier League starts before the end of the campaign.

With just nine matches remaining in the season and the Nigerian yet to start a single league game, the clause cannot be activated, effectively bringing his brief English adventure to an end.

Christantus Uche set for Getafe return

Uche’s spell at Selhurst Park has largely been a frustrating one. The ex-UD Cueta midfielder has managed just 159 minutes across 14 appearances in the league, all of which have come from the bench.

While he did show flashes of his talent in Europe, scoring two goals in four matches in the UEFA Europa Conference League, those performances were not enough to convince the club to keep him beyond the loan deal.

Oliver Glasner’s side strayed into the transfer market during the winter transfer window, bringing in Brennan Johnson and Jorge Strand Larsen on permanent deals while Evann Guessand joined on loan, further pushing Uche down the pecking order.

With the permanent transfer option off the table, Uche is expected to return to Jose Bordalas’ side at the end of the season.

As per Fichajes, the Madrid-based club are already preparing for the midfielder’s return, although his long-term future in Spain remains uncertain.

Getafe could explore the possibility of selling the Nigerian if suitable offers arrive in the summer transfer window.

However, if offers fail to arrive, the coaching staff are willing to reintegrate the Super Eagles star into their plans for next season.

Despite his difficult spell in England, Uche remains a promising talent whose development could still take a positive turn.

For now, though, the English chapter of his career appears set to close, with his future likely to be decided back in Spain.
