Cyriel Dessers' goal helps Rangers fight back

Rangers kept their slim title hopes alive with a dramatic 5-2 comeback victory over Dundee at Ibrox Stadium.

Dundee, chasing European qualification, surprised the home crowd by taking a commanding 2-0 lead within the first 40 minutes. Defenders Jordan McGhee and Antonio Portales found the net for the visitors.

However, Rangers refused to surrender. Winger Ross McCausland clawed a goal back just before halftime, injecting life into the Gers' performance.

The second half saw a dominant Rangers side. In-form Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers continued his hot streak with a powerful header from a Todd Cantwell cross to equalize for Rangers seven minutes after the break.

That was his fifth goal in as many games for Rangers.

The turning point for Rangers came in the 66th minute with a moment of brilliance from Todd Cantwell.

The Rangers winger unleashed a stunning effort from a wide position that seemed destined to be a cross, but it dipped viciously and beat Dundee goalkeeper Jon McCracken off the post and into the net.

It looked like the winger wanted to cross the ball, but it landed in the net, giving his team the lead for the first time in the game.

Substitute Scott Wright put the icing on the cake with a brace in the final minutes, curling home a delightful fourth and adding another in injury time to secure a convincing victory for Rangers.

Despite the win, Rangers' title hopes remain a long shot after their 2-1 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead on Saturday. However, a Celtic stumble in their next match could see the title race reignited in less than 24 hours.

Despite the disappointment of losing the title, Dessers will be pleased with his goal return this season.

The 28-year-old has scored 14 goals from 30 league matches, and 22 goals in 52 matches in all competitions.

Dessers goals good omen for Super Eagles

New Super Eagles coach Finidi George will be happy with Dessers' recent returns and hopes the striker will bring his fine form to bear when Nigeria resume the FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.

The former Genk striker has already scored with Finidi in charge, albeit temporarily, in the 2-1 win over Ghana in the last international window.

Nigeria will definitely need Dessers and other Super Eagles strikers to be at their best in the next batch of qualifiers.

The Super Eagles, are facing an uphill battle in Group C of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. After two matches, they've only managed to scrape together two points, placing them precariously in third position.

Meanwhile, Rwanda, a team not typically considered a powerhouse, have shocked everyone by taking the top spot in the group. They currently sit first in the group with four points.
