Super Eagles’ midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, has opened up about his personal goals at Lazio, revealing a drive and determination that could set the tone for a memorable season in Serie A.
Dele-Bashiru joined the Italian side from Turkish club Hatayspor at the start of the season on a loan deal with an option to buy, with the transfer fee expected to reach €7 million and the potential for a contract extension until 2028.
His standout 2023/24 season saw him register eight goals and five assists in 36 appearances, playing a key role in Hatayspor’s 15th-place finish in the league.
His impressive performances attracted the attention of Lazio, who made him a priority target throughout the summer before successfully securing his signature.
Drawing from his strong performances last season, Dele-Bashiru aims to translate that form into consistent contributions for his new team, with personal goals in mind, as he looks to prove himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Dele-Bashiru focused on personal growth and Lazio success in ongoing season
In a recent interview with Lazio TV, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru reflected on his development under Lazio's manager, Marco Baroni.
“They [Baroni and the Lazio coaching staff] help me a lot, and what he [Baroni] wants me to do more is when I receive the ball, to go forward more, my body positions, things like that,” the 23-year-old said.
“So, I’m trying to implement that into my game,” he continued. As he continues to settle in, Dele-Bashiru also set his personal goals for the season, stating, “I would like to maybe, if I can't equal the amount of goals I got last season, maybe one more so maybe 10 goals this season hopefully. And also for the team, I would say to qualify for Champions League. Winning is the most important thing, and winning is what makes me the most happy on the pitch.”
The Manchester City academy graduate has made an impact at Lazio, contributing six goals so far this season—scoring four and providing two assists in 14 appearances.
