Amid ongoing speculation about his future, Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers has affirmed his commitment to the club.
The Nigeria international, amidst reported interest from other clubs, has expressed his intention to stay at Rangers.
Dessers, since his arrival at Ibrox at the beginning of the 2023/24 season from Italian outfit Cremonese, has been the subject of criticism from the Gers faithful.
Manager Clement came out in defence of his centre-forward during the title run-in, and talked up Dessers' improvements and effort. “He is working really hard for the team, he is giving everything,” Clement said. “He changed the situation himself in a really good way… he has been working really hard to help the team, not only thinking about himself but to help the team.”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the 29-year-old's future at Ibrox, he was included in Phillipe Clement's squad for the club's training camp in the Netherlands. He also played a role in the Gers' recent 2-1 loss to Ajax Amsterdam on Saturday at the Sportpark Mulderssingel.
Dessers' intentions amid transfer speculation
In an interview with Ziggo Sport Voetbal via Footballtransfers following Rangers' pre-season match against Ajax, Dessers acknowledged receiving interest from other clubs for his services. However, he also stressed his strong desire to remain at Ibrox.
“I am very happy here, so I would like to stay,” Dessers said. Addressing reported interest from other clubs, he added, “There is some interest, but my intention is to stay and then we will see what happens.”
In recent weeks, Dessers has been the subject of transfer speculation linking him with moves to Greek side PAOK and more recently, Italian outfit Cagliari. There have also been reported interests from clubs in Spain, France, and Saudi Arabia.
Last season, Dessers featured prominently for Rangers, making 54 appearances, scoring 22 goals, and providing nine assists.
His contract with Rangers is set to expire in May 2027.
