Dortmund set to benefit from Lookman to Atlético Madrid transfer

Borussia Dortmund are poised to gain a timely advantage from Ademola Lookman’s impending move to Atlético Madrid, Afrik Foot reports.

The Nigerian forward is set to leave Atalanta just before their crucial Champions League playoff clash.

An agreement has now been reached in all areas of the transfer, with Atlético Madrid set to pay €35 million in guaranteed fees plus €5 million in performance-based add-ons for Lookman.

The 28-year-old is expected to complete his medical in Madrid and finalise the switch, bringing an end to his spell in Bergamo.

Lookman’s departure comes at a critical moment for Niko Kovač’s men, who are scheduled to face Atalanta in the Champions League playoffs for a place in the round of 16.

The first leg will be played at the Signal Iduna Park on February 17, with the return fixture set for February 25 in Bergamo.

With Lookman leaving for Spain, Atalanta will be without one of their most dangerous attacking weapons for both legs of the tie.

The Super Eagles forward has been central to their attacking play in recent seasons, and his absence is expected to significantly weaken the Italian side’s offensive threat against the Black and Yellows.

Lookman joined Atalanta in 2022 and went on to establish himself as one of Serie A’s standout attackers, playing a major role in their Europa League success.
