Kelechi Iheanacho was given a runout as Sevilla faced a Liverpool mauling at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. The Reds ran out comfortable 4-1 winners in front of their home fans.

Liverpool took the lead through Diogo Jota in the 30th minute. The Portuguese forward finished off a superb pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold with a stunning volley.

Jota turned provider just before half-time, setting up Luis Diaz with a clever pass. The Colombian curled a brilliant effort into the bottom corner to double Liverpool's lead.

The Reds from Merseyside extended their lead on the stroke of half-time. Alisson Becker's long ball found Dominik Szoboszlai, who squared for Luis Diaz to tap into an empty net.

Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta made wholesale changes at half-time, with Iheanacho making way for other substitutes as the Spanish side trailed 3-0. Ejuke, a former Liverpool trialist, was introduced to the action in the second half.

Ejuke had a hand in Sevilla’s only goal of the encounter. The Gome United product dribbled past Trent Alexander-Arnold before setting up Gerard Peque to pull one back.

However, youngster Trey Nyoni quickly restored the three-goal lead for Arne Slot’s men sixty seconds later, firing a rebound into the bottom corner to extinguish Sevilla's hope of staging a comeback.

A debut season

Chidera Ejuke has been the standout performer for Sevilla during pre-season, dazzling fans with his skills and creativity. The winger looks set to be a key player for the Spanish side as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.

Kelechi Iheanacho, meanwhile, is still finding his feet at the club but has shown glimpses of his quality in training. Both Nigerians will be looking to make their La Liga debuts when Sevilla face Las Palmas on Friday.

Sevilla's ultimate goal is to return to European competition next season, and the contributions of Iheanacho and Ejuke could be crucial to their success.
