Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez is looking increasingly likely to leave Scottish side Rangers in the summer transfer window, Afrik-Foot reports.
Fernandez has been one of Rangers’ standout performers this season and has played a major role in their title push, with the Light Blues currently in an exciting three-way battle involving Hearts and Celtic, with only a few games left to decide the champion.
The Nigerian centre-back only arrived at Rangers last summer, but few could have predicted how quickly he has adapted. He has made 28 appearances across all competitions, scoring six times and even earned a place in the Scotland PFA Team of the Year for the campaign, a testament of his rapid progress.
His form also caught the attention of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who handed him his senior debut in March and now sees him as an important part of the squad ahead of the qualifiers for the 2027 African Cup of Nations.

Rangers have already set their valuation of the 24-year-old and are hoping to get a fee that would surpass the club-record sale when his compatriot Calvin Bassey joined Ajax Amsterdam in 2022.
As the summer window approaches, Afrik-Foot highlights three possible destinations for the in-demand defender:
1. Arsenal
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Emmanuel Fernandez and are expected to make a move ahead of other suitors once the transfer window opens.
Making a switch to one of England’s biggest clubs would represent a major step forward in his career. However, competition for places could be tough, with established defenders like William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes already first-choice options.
Even so, Arsenal are still expected to pursue a move and Rangers’ asking price should not be difficult for them to meet. Given their recent injury struggles and desire to compete at the highest level, Fernandez would be a valuable addition and he would certainly get opportunities to play.

2. Chelsea
Chelsea are another Premier League side strongly linked with Emmanuel Fernandez ahead of the summer window. The West London club are expected to look for a new centre-back after facing defensive issues this season and the Super Eagles defender ranks very high on their shortlist.
With the club also keen to add more experience to the squad, a move for Fernandez would suit both parties and he could play a major role in Chelsea’s rebuild heading into next season.
The presence of fellow Nigerian defender Tosin Adarabioyo would also make adaptation easy for him at the club, potentially giving them an edge ahead of other interested clubs.
3. Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund are also strong contenders for Fernandez’s signature and their interest is majorly driven by the possibility of losing Nico Schlotterbeck in the summer, which would create the need for a young and experienced replacement.
A move to the Bundesliga would be another big step up and would certainly offer him more consistent playing time and with the club’s strong track record of developing players, it could set up an even bigger move in the future.
Which club will win the race for Emmanuel Fernandez?

Just a year ago, Fernandez was playing for English lower-league side Peterborough United, but he has enjoyed a rapid rise since then and has developed into one of the most sought-after defenders in the game.
The Super Eagles defender is a major aerial threat in both boxes and is also comfortable on the ball, a quality that makes him a highly-rated, given how teams now prefer to build from the back.
While Arsenal appear to be leading the race at the moment, concerns over playing time could change his decision, which may open the door for Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and other interested clubs to secure his signature this summer.
