Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has emerged as a potential interim manager for Olympique de Marseille following the departure of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, Afrik Foot NG reports.
Sources say discussions have taken place in recent days, with Chelle’s proximity to the Stade Vélodrome and current availability making him a viable option for the French club.

The Super Eagles boss is currently free from international duties until the end of the season, making him available for a temporary appointment, as earlier reported by Soccernet NG.
Chelle was recently spotted attending a match to watch Nigerian youngster Tochukwu Nnadi in action, though he did not engage with Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri, despite rumours linking him to a potential Eagles invitation.

Despite speculation, Marseille’s Sporting Director, Medhi Benatia, has not initiated direct contact with Chelle, leaving the situation in the early stages of discussion.
Habib Beye leading the race
Aside from Chelle, Rennes coach and former Marseille captain Habib Beye remains the frontrunner for the role.
La Provence further reports that Beye is familiar with the club, having played more than a hundred games for Marseille, and has never hidden his desire to return as head coach.

De Zerbi’s departure leaves OM without a coach just three days before their home game against Strasbourg this Saturday at the Vélodrome.
Internal solutions for an interim position exist, including Pancho Abardonado, who has been involved with every coaching staff since Jorge Sampaoli, and Romain Ferrier, currently in charge of the reserve team.
There has not been anything official from all parties involved. However, Marseille appear to be weighing whether to promote internally or bring in an interim solution like Chelle, even as Beye maintains the upper hand in the race for the permanent appointment.
