Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has signed a contract extension with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Afrik-Foot reports.
This was confirmed after a meeting held on Tuesday at the National Sports Commission headquarters in Abuja. The meeting was attended by the chairman of the National Sports Commission and high ranking members of the NFF, including President Ibrahim Gusau.
This agreement follows months of speculation regarding his future, as his previous contract was set to expire next year.
After the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Chelle had been linked to several national teams, including Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Angola.
He was also rumored to be a candidate for the managerial position at Lyon, though those discussions did not materialize.

Following the leak of his contract demands two months ago, the NFF has successfully negotiated terms that accommodate several of his requirements.
Eric Chelle Gets Salary Boost in New Contract
Under the terms of his new contract, Chelle’s responsibilities will expand beyond the senior squad. He is now set to oversee the Nigerian U-23 team, with the specific mandate of guiding them through the Olympic qualifiers.

Other key things to note in the Franco-Malian’s new deal include:
- Salary Increase: His monthly salary has been doubled to $100,000, up from his previous €50,000.
- Assistant Coaching Staff: Unlike his previous arrangement, where he was responsible for paying his assistants from his personal salary, the federation will now cover these costs directly, allowing Chelle to retain his full salary.

Chelle’s immediate priority will be to lead the Super Eagles through the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which are set to commence later this year.
Chelle took charge of the Super Eagles squad in January 2025, and the team has enjoyed significant progress with him and coach. He almost rescued the team in the World Cup qualifiers, and he led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. To many fans and pundits, Nigeria was even the best team in that tournament.
With these new changes to his contract, he will be expected to lead the Super Eagles to success in the coming years and also do well with the under-23 team.
