Ex-Super Eagles defender backs Arteta’s Arsenal for UCL glory over PSG

Former Super Eagles and Go Ahead Eagles centre-back Kingsley Obiekwu has tipped Arsenal to defeat Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final, Afrik Foot reports.

The Gunners are currently top of the English Premier League, although they’re in a race with Manchester City, and that could go down to the final gameweek.

In the Champions League, though, Mike Arteta’s men have displaced Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Kingsley Obiekwu tips Arsenal for UCL triumph

Obiekwu was a part of the Nigerian team that won the 1996 Olympic gold medal in Atlanta.

Being a defender himself, the 51-year-old believes the defensive solidity that has been on display all season by Mikel Arteta’s side should be enough to guide them against a free-scoring Paris Saint-Germain side.

I think Arsenal’s run this term, as was the case last season, has revolved around their defence,” the ex-Al-Ahli defender said in an interview with Complete Sports.

“I didn’t play for the London club during my career but, from close observation, I think the club has improved tremendously since last season.

“They are top of the EPL table with two or three games to go. They are also in the UCL final where they will meet PSG.

“Their defence has been key to this and could still come to the fore in the UCL final against PSG.

“They score goals and still defend very well. It is like Jose Mourinho’s era at Chelsea FC. Mourinho believed that if his team scored a goal, they could defend it until the end. Chelsea were able to win several titles with that approach.

“Arsenal have displayed this quality consistently and I think they can do it again.

“They play well, they score goals and still defend very well. This has worked for them and I can see it happening again,” Obiekwu concluded.
