Super Eagles defender Felix Agu is expected to remain at Werder Bremen beyond this summer, with the Bundesliga club opening the door to a contract extension despite growing uncertainty surrounding his future, Afrik Foot reports.
Agu endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign, making just 11 appearances for Werder due to a series of injury setbacks.
The 26-year-old suffered a serious ankle injury in October that kept him sidelined for almost four months, while recurring muscular problems limited his impact after returning to action.
Despite his fitness struggles, Werder Bremen remain convinced of Agu’s importance to the team and are eager to see him return fully fit for the new season.

Werder Bremen open to Felix Agu contract extension
Speaking about the Nigerian defender’s situation, Werder’s Head of Professional Football, Peter Niemeyer, stressed that the club remains confident in Agu’s abilities.
“We are looking forward to him completing a full pre-season so that, after the injuries, he can finally start a season fully fit again,” Niemeyer told DeichStube.
Agu, who made his Super Eagles debut under Eric Chelle last year, has often been a regular starter whenever fit and is highly regarded within the Bremen setup.
The former Germany youth international is also believed to enjoy the full backing of head coach Daniel Thioune, who has worked with him for several years and remains one of his strongest supporters at the club.

With Agu’s current deal set to expire in 2027, speculation has emerged over whether Werder could cash in on the defender this summer.
The left wing-back is currently valued at around €4.5 million and, given his contract situation, this transfer window may represent Bremen’s best opportunity to secure a sizeable fee.
However, the Bundesliga club appear more interested in keeping him than selling him.
Niemeyer confirmed that while no recent negotiations have taken place, Werder Bremen are willing to discuss fresh terms with the Nigerian defender.
“There have not been any further discussions so far, but fundamentally we are open to a contract extension,” he said.
According to reports in Germany, the last round of talks between both parties took place during the winter transfer window, but all sides remain interested in revisiting negotiations later this summer.

For Agu, the coming months could prove crucial. The defender is reportedly taking extra care with his physical conditioning after a difficult season and is determined to avoid another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
