Why Fiorentina may pull out of Tolu Arokodare transfer race

Italian Serie A club Fiorentina has been strongly linked with Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

​The 25-year-old striker has been linked with many clubs this summer despite his disappointing first year at Wolves.

He failed to deliver in his debut season, contributing just six goals and two assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. Unfortunately for him, the club’s poor form and subpar teammates affected him adversely.

​Coming into this summer, Wolves had already decided to part ways with him, especially after his bust-up with teammate Mateus Mane, and they have made that clear by excluding him from their pre-season plans.

​Clubs like Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Trabzonspor, Bologna, and Fiorentina have been linked with Arokodare, but none of them have followed through yet.

​Over the past week, La Viola have emerged as a likely destination. The Serie A club sent in an initial bid which was rejected. Then, last week, they submitted another bid which included a loan move with a €22 million purchase option, but nothing concrete has emerged from that yet.

​In the meantime, reports from Turkey suggest that they might pull out of the transfer deal.

​Why Fiorentina Might Pull Out of the Tolu Arokodare Transfer

​According to Turkish outlet A Spor, Fiorentina might pull out of the race for Arokodare. This is because they recently reached the maximum number of non-European players they can sign, following the arrival of Inao Oulai from Trabzonspor.

​According to Serie A rules, clubs can only register a maximum of two non-EU players signed from foreign clubs per season.

​They recently signed Inao Oulai from Trabzonspor, and they also signed Viery, a center-back from Gremio. These are non-EU players who were signed from clubs outside Italy.

​So, if Fiorentina signs Arokodare this summer, they won’t be able to register him. Consequently, they have to pull out of the deal.

​Time for Trabzonspor to Pounce?

​With Fiorentina out of the race for Arokodare, Trabzonspor will be looking to pounce on the opportunity.

​They need to sign a striker this summer, as they might lose their main marksman, Paul Onuachu. They also sold Felipe Augusto to Zenit St. Petersburg earlier on.

​Although Arokodare is reportedly unwilling to move to Turkey, he might not have a choice at the moment, as Fiorentina appears to be out of the race and no other club has submitted a bid for him.

​In the coming days, Trabzonspor is expected to make a move for the Super Eagles striker. It is left to be seen whether Wolves will sanction the transfer.
