Fisayo Dele-Bashiru caged: Stats prove Lazio are cheating themselves out of game-changing impact

Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s hopes of qualifying for Europe are in serious trouble, with Lazio slipping down the Serie A table.

After 34 match days, the capital club sit 7th, 14 points behind leaders Napoli, with just four games left in the season.

One major reason for their struggles is the lack of goals from midfield.

While Lazio’s defence and attack have chipped in with goals in double figures, the midfield has been largely ineffective in this regard.

In fact, when it comes to midfield goals, Lazio rank among the worst in the league. Only Empoli (4), Monza (2), and Lecce (0) have fewer goal contributions from midfielders.

Coach Marco Baroni has continued to rely on Mateo Guendouzi and Nicolò Rovella, but the pair haven’t provided the spark needed in the final third.

If Lazio are serious about pushing for a Champions League spot, something has to change in that midfield.

Since returning from injury, Dele-Bashiru has struggled to break into the starting XI and has been limited to cameo appearances.

In Lazio’s last two Serie A matches, the 25-year-old was an unused substitute.

But when it comes to midfield productivity, the numbers show that Dele-Bashiru offers more than anyone else in his position at the club.

Despite limited game time, he has five goals in all competitions, including three in 19 Serie A appearances.

That’s the best return among Lazio’s midfielders. He’s also added three assists, bringing his total goal contributions to eight.

These stats should give Baroni something to think about. Dele-Bashiru brings energy, directness, and goal threat from deep — qualities Lazio desperately need right now.

Giving him a proper run of games could be key to unlocking the goals missing from midfield as the season reaches its final stretch.
