Reports in the Spanish media indicate that Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is attracting interest from Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
Ndidi's contract with the Foxes ran out this month. He has spent seven seasons with the former English champions after arriving from Belgian outfit Genk in 2017.
He was a key figure in the club’s midfield as they secured promotion back to the English top-flight.
The 27-year-old scored six goals and provided six assists across all competitions for the Foxes, despite missing 14 games due to injuries.
Wilfred Ndidi profile admired by Barcelona hierarchy
According to SPORT, Barcelona are in the market for a midfielder with a different profile from those currently in the squad, specifically one who can excel in a recovery role.
Previously, the Blaugrana were linked with moves for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez and Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino. There were also discussions involving Everton’s Amadou Onana, Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, and Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.
Wilfred Ndidi is reportedly admired by the club's new manager Hansi Flick and the club's Sporting Director Deco.
He fits the pivot type that Deco prefers, thanks to his physical potential. SPORT also reports that Ndidi was offered to Barcelona months ago, and former manager Xavi Hernández personally observed him to give his verdict.
Can Barcelona prize Ndidi away from Galatasaray and Juventus?
Ndidi has previously attracted interest from Galatasaray and Juventus; it is unlikely that the Spanish giants will have a free run at the Nigeria international should they choose to press forward with their intent.
With interest from multiple top clubs, Ndidi is increasingly likely to command a healthy signing-on fee. The competition for his signature corroborates his worth in the transfer market, with clubs eager to secure his services ahead of the upcoming season.
Ndidi is currently on international duty with the Super Eagles as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
