Super Falcons: France name crack squad for friendly

Laurent Bonadei, head coach of the French women's national team, has unveiled a formidable 30-player squad for their international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Falcons.

The match is set to take place on Saturday, November 30, at the Raymond Kopa Stadium in Angers.

Bonadei’s list includes the return of several key players who missed the last international window due to injuries.

With a deeper pool to select from this time, the Bleues boss is better equipped for his second game in charge, unlike his debut, where withdrawals forced his hand.

The squad boasts seven players from French champions Olympique Lyonnais, including seasoned stars Wendie Renard, Eugénie Le Sommer, and Kadidiatou Diani.

Notably, young defender Alice Sombath earns her maiden call-up, signaling Bonadei’s intent to blend experience with fresh talent.

Redemption time for Super Falcons?

France and Nigeria last clashed during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage, where the hosts narrowly edged the Super Falcons 1-0.

However, memories of an even more painful encounter linger.

The last friendly between these sides in 2018 ended in an 8-0 drubbing for Nigeria — a day to forget for the Super Falcons.

This time, the Nigerian team will aim to erase those memories and put in a performance worthy of their pedigree.

Interim head coach Justin Madugu is expected to announce Nigeria’s squad soon.

Sources at the Nigeria Football Federation told Afrik-foot that there will be a return of foreign-based stars who missed the recent friendlies against Algeria.
