Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka, Afrik Foot reports.

The 28-year-old featured for Nigeria in the March friendly games against Iran and Jordan, and was included in the starting lineup for the clash against Derby County last night.

Having joined on loan from Coventry City during the winter transfer window, Onyeka scored his first goal for the Sky Blue Stars in magnificent fashion last night.

13 minutes into the game, the Brentford loanee attempted a first-time cross, but his attempt swung beyond Richard O’Donnell into the top corner to give Coventry the lead.

Despite Onyeka’s opener, the Sky Blue Stars had to score on either side of Brereton Diaz’s goals to seal a fourth win from their last five games.

However, the midfielder’s goal pleased Frank Lampard, who made history by becoming the first coach to win 25 games in a Championship season.

“It was brilliant from Frank, not just the finish, but the winning the ball back and Cruyffing near the touch line and then going and joining in again (to receive the pass from Romain Esse in the box),” the former Chelsea boss said in quotes revealed by the Coventry Telegraph.

“It’s the attributes that we brought him in to do but the special thing is the goal. I felt a goal was coming for Frank.

“He’s quite hungry to get in there and has got the capacity to arrive and shoot, and it was a fantastic goal,” Lampard concluded.
