Premier League side Fulham are expected to intensify their pursuit of Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu during the summer transfer window, Afrik-Foot reports.
Nwaiwu only joined Trabzonspor in January, but his impressive performances have already put him on the radar of several top clubs including the likes of West Ham United, Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen.
The Nigerian centre-back made 21 appearances across all competitions for the Turkish side and was an influential part of the squad as they finished third in the Super Lig and also won the Turkish Cup after beating Konyaspor 2-1 in the final last month.
As per reports, Fulham have already seen an offer of €20 million rejected by Trabzonspor for the services of the young defender, although they are expected to return with an improved bid.

Despite joining only a few months ago in a €5.5 million deal, he could be on his way out as interest continues to grow, and it is becoming clearer why Fulham are keen on him this summer.
Long-term defensive option for Fulham
Fulham are preparing for a huge summer ahead, with a new era set to begin at the club following the departure of head coach Marco Silva to Benfica after the expiration of his contract.
Meanwhile, they are ready for a major defensive shake-up as well, with several of their defenders set to enter the final year of their contract when the 2026-27 season commences.
Moroccan defender Issa Diop and Super Eagles centre-back Calvin Bassey will be out of contract next summer, and the Cottagers are already planning for the future. This is why they want Nwaiwu to join the club immediately so he can integrate early especially in case either of the experienced defenders end up leaving the club.
At 22, Nwaiwu is still very young and could offer several years at the top level, which makes him an attractive long-term option for the club.

Goalscoring threat from defence
At 1.93 metres tall, Nwaiwu has a dominant presence in the air, which enables him to win aerial duels and use his physical strength effectively.
This also gives him a massive advantage in attacking set-piece situations, making him an extra threat in the opposition box. He scored three goals for Trabzonspor after joining in January, further highlighting his threat from those situations.
With the Premier League increasingly drifting towards physicality and set-piece style, this would provide the perfect platform for Nwaiwu to excel at Fulham.
Defensive solidity
Nwaiwu’s defensive statistics are impressive and was even better than some of Fulham’s current options in some areas, although there is an argument about the difference in league quality.
He averages 1.4 interceptions per 90 minutes, 3.8 clearances, 2.1 tackles, and wins around 66.7% of his ground duels. These numbers make him a very reliable option in defence and a strong addition to their backline.

However, while these qualities are not a guarantee that he will immediately shine, they are strong indicators that he could develop and grow further if he eventually makes the move to Fulham.
Trabzonspor reportedly want a record-breaking fee between €35 – 40 million to sanction a deal this summer, as they are not in a hurry to sell him.
However, Fulham are expected to return with an improved offer and if they meet the valuation, Nwaiwu could be on his way to the Premier League, becoming the latest Nigerian player to join the English top flight.
