Goztepe willing to slash price for ‘Nigeria’s next midfield general’ as Galatasaray circle

Turkish Super Lig club Göztepe are willing to lower their asking price for Nigerian midfielder Anthony Dennis, amid interest from other clubs.

Dennis has attracted significant interest in recent months following his impressive performances for Göztepe.

Although he only joined the club from HB Abuja in 2023, he has already established himself as one of the top defensive midfielders in Turkey.

Last summer, he was heavily linked with moves to several major European clubs, including Anderlecht and Union Berlin. However, a transfer failed to materialise as Göztepe held out for a fee in the region of €10 million

In recent weeks, Galatasaray have emerged as strong contenders for the 21-year-old’s signature. The reigning Turkish Super Lig champions are keen to strengthen their squad as they look to maintain their dominance domestically and improve their competitiveness on the continental stage.

Signing a player like Dennis would provide an additional option in midfield and healthy competition for Lucas Torreira.

Göztepe Reduce Anthony Dennis’ Price as Galatasaray Circle

According to Forza Cimbom, Göztepe have reduced their valuation of Anthony Dennis from €10 million to around €7.5 million.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder is currently valued at €5 million on Transfermarkt, but Göztepe believe they can secure a higher fee from his sale.

This development will please Galatasaray, who have been monitoring Dennis closely for several months. The Nigerian midfielder still has a contract that runs until the end of next season, meaning Göztepe may need to sell him soon to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer.

While the transfer window in most top European leagues has already closed, the Turkish Super Lig window remains open until January 6, giving Galatasaray a chance to complete a late deal.

However, the summer transfer window appears to be the most likely period for a move to materialise.

Anthony Dennis: Can He Become Nigeria’s Next Midfield General?

Anthony Dennis is one of the highly-rated Nigerian midfielders in Europe. He has the energy and lungs to cover every blade of grass. He is also a fine tackler and holds the ball really well.

The 21-year-old midfielder has not risen to global reckoning yet. But judging by his age and what he has shown, he definitely has a lot to offer in the coming years.

Dennis has never played for Nigeria’s Super Eagles. But with his worth, it will only be a matter of time.
