Ibrahim Olawoyin: Key reason Nigerian star could leave Rizespor in January

Nigerian forward Ibrahim Olawoyin could leave Turkish Super Lig side Rizespor when the January transfer window opens, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 28-year-old joined Rizespor from Ankara Keciorengucu in 2023 and has since become an important player for the Turkish club.

He had also played for the likes Abia Warriors and Enugu Rangers in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), before making the move abroad.

Olawoyin has made 128 appearances for Rizespor across all competitions since his arrival. He has also featured in all six of their league games this season, scoring his first goal of the campaign in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Goztepe.

However, the Nigerian midfielder’s future at the club remains uncertain after he came close to leaving during the summer transfer window.

Olawoyin: Why Nigerian midfielder could leave Rizespor in January

Ibrahim Olawoyin did not secure a move away from Rizespor during the summer, but another opportunity could emerge when the transfer window reopens in January.

According to Footy-Africa, his contract situation could play a major role in determining his future at the club. The Nigerian midfielder’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning Rizespor could consider selling him in January rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

The club would prefer to keep Olawoyin and could offer him a new contract. However, if an agreement is not reached, Rizespor could be willing to sanction his departure if a club meets their valuation.

Rizespor are reportedly looking for around €2.5 million for the midfielder, with interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia said to have emerged. If their valuation is met, the Turkish club could allow Olawoyin to leave in January and bring an end to his spell with the club.

For now, Olawoyin will remain focused on helping Rizespor achieve their targets and continue their campaign in the Turkish Super Lig.
