Fulham manager Marco Silva offered an explanation for Alex Iwobi’s early substitution during the team’s 2-0 away victory over Leicester City on Saturday.
The Super Eagles midfielder delivered a solid first-half performance, effectively combining with Antonee Robinson and Emile Smith Rowe, which made his substitution at the break all the more puzzling, sparking some controversy.
However, Silva's insight sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the decision, revealing more about Iwobi’s condition leading up to his substitution.

Silva explains Iwobi’s early substitution amidst fitness concerns in Leicester win
In the aftermath of the Cottagers' victory over Leicester, Silva addressed the reason behind Alex Iwobi’s early substitution.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Portuguese manager revealed that the decision was due to fitness concerns, rather than the 28-year-old's performance.
“Iwobi was not substituted because of his performance. He had a difficult 24 hours before the game. In the morning, we assessed him, and he was okay to play. But there were doubts if he would have been able to play the full game. At half time, he was not feeling so well, and we decided to change him,” Silva said as per West London Sport.

He has featured in every Premier League match for Fulham this season, registering an impressive 10 goal involvements—seven goals and three assists—in 22 appearances, marking his most productive season to date.
It remains uncertain whether Iwobi will be available for Fulham's upcoming Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday, 26 January.
