Former Liverpool and England centre-back Jamie Carragher has highlighted the importance of Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi to Fulham’s setup, Afrik Foot reports.

The 29-year-old was at the heart of everything right for the Cottagers at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland.

Iwobi assisted Raul Jimenez’s opener from a corner kick before rounding off the game in the 85th minute by dinking the ball over Robin Roefs, sending Fulham into the top half of the English Premier League table.

Jamie Carragher reveals Iwobi’s importance to Fulham

Following the Nigerian’s display against Sunderland, Carragher revealed Iwobi is massively underrated regarding the effect he has on how the Cottagers play.

“Alex Iwobi, for me, is one of those players who you know is going to play every week for Fulham.

“He can play different positions. He’s a manager’s dream, especially a Marco Silva dream,” the one-time UEFA Champions League winner said on Sky Sports.

“This is the guy who spent a lot of money to bring him to Everton when Iwobi was at Arsenal. He then took him from Everton to Fulham as well.

“He’s a huge fan of his, and you can understand why. Physically, he’s absolutely fantastic as well.

“This quality he shows, got a goal and got an assist, a lovely finish. He’s actually underrated; we don’t speak about him enough.

“We speak about other players in the Fulham team and rightly so, but I think he’s right up there with the best players that Fulham have got, and certainly this season,” Carragher concluded.

Iwobi is the Nigerian player with the most appearances in the English Premier League, beating the likes of Mikel Obi and Yakubu Aiyegbeni to a historic feat.
