Juventus lead PSG in chase for Premier League star caught in Nigeria vs Italy race

Juventus and Paris Saint‑Germain are both monitoring the progress of Michael Kayode, the highly rated young defender currently playing for Brentford, Afrik-Foot reports.

According to transfer market expert Nico Schira, Juventus scouts have recently been tracking the 21-year-old right-back closely. Reports indicate that the Italian giants dispatched observers to watch Kayode during Brentford’s last two Premier League matches as they assess potential reinforcements for the future.

Kayode’s performances in England where he has become a long throw specialist has caught the attention of top clubs across Europe. The defender, who joined Brentford permanently in July 2025 after an initial loan from ACF Fiorentina earlier in the 2024-25 season, has grown into a key figure in the west London side’s defensive setup.

His rise through the game has been steady but striking. After early youth spells with AC Gozzano and Juventus, Kayode developed further in Fiorentina’s Primavera system before stepping into senior football in Serie A.

That pathway eventually led him to the Premier League, where he has continued to develop his reputation as a dynamic full-back capable of contributing in both defence and attack.

Standing at 1.79m and known for his pace and forward runs, Kayode has impressed with his energy down the right flank, his aggressive pressing and his powerful long throw-ins. His market value has climbed rapidly in recent years, rising from just €75,000 during his early days at Gozzano to €27m while at Brentford, reflecting his swift development into one of the more promising young defenders in European football.

Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Real Madrid and Man United, have also been linked with the player ahead of the summer transfer window. The Ligue 1 champions are believed to be keeping an eye on Kayode’s situation as they explore options to strengthen their defensive depth.

While the speculation remains at an early stage, Juventus may feel they hold a natural advantage in the race. Kayode spent part of his youth career in the Turin club’s academy setup, giving the Italian side a level of familiarity with the player’s background and development.

Italy vs Nigeria: Juventus-target Kayode’s international future still open

Beyond the transfer interest surrounding him, Kayode’s international future is another storyline gathering attention.

Born in Borgomanero, Italy, to Nigerian parents, the Brentford defender holds dual nationality and remains eligible to represent both Italy and Nigeria at senior level. He has already featured prominently in Italy’s youth system and played a key role in the country’s triumph at the UEFA European Under‑19 Championship, where he scored the decisive goal in the final.

His continued development in the Premier League has strengthened his case for a senior call-up with Italy, where competition for places remains intense as the country prepares for future international tournaments.

At the same time, the Nigeria national football team have also been keeping a close watch on the defender’s progress. Nigeria’s football authorities are aware that Kayode remains eligible for the Super Eagles and could yet choose to represent the country of his parents.

For now, however, the defender’s immediate focus remains on his club career with Brentford. As he continues to impress in the Premier League, interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, and the attention of two international teams, is only likely to grow.https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083405/2026/03/06/michael-kayode-interview-brentford-italy-long-throw/
