Lazio new boy Dele-Bashiru in danger of missing Serie A resumption

Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru sustained an injury during the team's Thursday morning training session at their camp in Auronzo.

The 23-year-old reportedly limped off during training as I Biancocelesti prepared for their pre-season friendly against lower-tier side Trapani 1905. Consequently, he missed Lazio's 3-1 victory over their Thursday opponents. The Nigeria international is believed to be experiencing an issue with his left adductor.

Earlier this month, Dele-Bashiru joined the Italian outfit from Turkish side Hatayaspor on a season-long loan with an option to buy. The transfer fee is expected to reach €7 million, with a potential contract extending until 2028.

The midfielder scored a brace in his new club's first pre-season match as Lazio routed ninth-tier club CS Auronzo FC with a 23-0 victory.

Extent of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru's injury remains unclear

The extent of Dele-Bashiru's injury is not yet known, with the club set to evaluate his condition further.

Recovery time for an adductor injury can vary significantly depending on the severity. If the injury to the Nigeria interantional is a mild (Grade 1) adductor strain, the expected recovery period typically ranges from 1 to 3 weeks.

A moderate (Grade 2) adductor strain generally requires 3 to 6 weeks for full recovery. In the case of a severe (Grade 3) adductor tear, the recovery time can extend to several months, often between 3 to 4 months, and may necessitate surgical intervention.

Lazio's medical team will conduct a thorough assessment to determine the exact nature and severity of Dele-Bashiru's injury and outline an appropriate rehabilitation plan to ensure his optimal recovery.

The Lazio faithful, however, will hope that the new Super Eagles number 10 will recover in time to aid the club's quest as the new Serie A season commences on 17 August.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scored his maiden Super Eagles goal in the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on 7 July. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury later in the game, causing him to miss Nigeria's 2-1 defeat to Benin days later.
