Bayer Leverkusen, Milan, Bremen: Victor Boniface’s value dips to lowest in 4 years

Published on by

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has seen his market value fall sharply to €5 million, according to the latest Transfermarkt update, Afrik-Foot reports.

This is a huge drop for a player who was once seen as one of the brightest attacking talents in Europe. Just two years ago, he was valued at close to €50 million after a brilliant debut season in Germany.

The main reasons for this fall are simple but serious: poor form and injury problems. A long-term knee issue, which required surgery in January 2026, has kept him out for most of the 2025/26 season. Because of this, clubs are now more cautious, and his value has dropped to its lowest level since his early days in Belgium.

In the Bundesliga, Boniface is no longer among the top Nigerian players. At Bayer Leverkusen, Nathan Tella is now valued at €15 million, while Felix Agu at Werder Bremen is valued at €8 million. Boniface’s €5 million puts him closer to players like Jordan Torunarigha and Kevin Akpoguma, rather than the top tier.

On a global level, the drop is even clearer. Boniface used to be the third most valuable Nigerian player in the world. Now, he sits around 12th. Players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Calvin Bassey, and Alex Iwobi are far ahead in value and influence.

This change shows just how quickly football can move. One great season can lift a player to the top, but injuries and loss of form can bring them down just as fast.

Victor Boniface: A difficult season and what comes next

The 2025/26 season has been one of the toughest of Victor Boniface’s career. It started with a potential big move to AC Milan, but the deal collapsed after medical tests raised concerns about his knee. That moment proved to be a turning point.

He then joined Werder Bremen on loan, hoping to rebuild his form. However, things did not go as planned. He struggled to make an impact, finishing with no goals and just two assists in 11 league matches. His confidence seemed low, and he never found rhythm.

By December 2025, his knee problem became worse. He returned to Bayer Leverkusen, where doctors confirmed serious cartilage damage. Surgery followed in January, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

This is very different from his first two seasons in Germany. In 2023/24, Boniface was one of the best players in the league. He scored goals, created chances, and helped Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title in historic fashion. He looked unstoppable.

In 2024/25, he still showed quality, scoring important goals, including in the Champions League. But injuries started to slow him down, and that momentum has never fully returned.

Looking ahead to the summer, Boniface’s options are limited. The most likely plan is to stay at Bayer Leverkusen and focus on recovery. The club still believes in his talent, and his contract runs until 2029.

Another loan move could also happen if he needs more playing time to regain fitness. Clubs in Germany or even Italy may take a chance on him, but only if he proves he is fully fit again.

A big-money transfer now looks unlikely. Interest from top clubs in England or even the Saudi league may return in the future, but only if Boniface can get back to his best.
