Orban: Ligue 1 side puts in bid for Super Eagles Lyon outcast

Super Eagles forward Gift Orban is poised for a fresh start as the January transfer window approaches, with reports suggesting he’s already attracting significant interest from clubs across Europe.

According to L'Equipe, Ligue 1 side Lens has reportedly submitted a bid for the 22-year-old striker.

However, their offer falls short of Lyon’s valuation, which is believed to be around €12 million.

Lyon initially signed Orban from Belgian side Gent for approximately €14 million, but his time at the club has been far from smooth, and he has been out of the first team for the past three months.

Despite limited opportunities, the Nigerian forward has managed to score two goals for Lyon this season.

Yet, with his contract running until 2028, it appears his chapter at the club is coming to an early end.

Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim is also keen on securing Orban’s services and has reportedly made two bids, with the latest offer coming close to Lyon’s asking price at €10 million.

Lens or Hoffenheim for Orban?

Orban’s departure looks inevitable, but RC Lens and Hoffenheim will have to battle it out to meet Lyon’s €12 million valuation. Both clubs recognize the striker's potential and are eager to acquire him from Lyon.

Comparatively, Lens is in a stronger position than Hoffenheim this season.

The French club currently sits in 7th place in Ligue 1 and has scored 19 goals so far, averaging 0.78 goals per game.

On the other hand, Hoffenheim find themselves in 15th place in the 18-team Bundesliga table after 15 rounds of matches.

While Lens are battling for a European spot, the Germans are navigating the relegation-promotion zone.

According to the striker's entourage, however, he would prefer to remain in France to reignite his career, provided Lens can meet Lyon’s valuation.
