Lookman confirmed as Serie A’s most influential attacker

Ademola Lookman has capped an extraordinary 2024 with the most goal contributions in the Italian Serie A, further cementing his place among Europe’s elite forwards.

The Super Eagles and Atalanta star contributed a staggering 22 goals. 13 scored and nine assisted in just 28 league appearances over the calendar year.

This achievement spans two seasons: the latter half of the 2023/24 campaign and the first half of 2024/25. What makes Lookman’s feat even more remarkable is that he missed several games due to both international commitments and off-field issues.

Despite playing fewer games than his closest rivals, he averaged an impressive 0.79 goal contributions per match, outperforming many of Serie A’s established stars.

Lookman shines despite setbacks

Lookman’s tally of 22 goal contributions edged out Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram and fellow Atalanta teammate Charles De Ketelaere, who each recorded 20 contributions.

Remarkably, the reigning CAF Player of the Year also outperformed notable names like Lautaro Martínez, Paulo Dybala, and Rafael Leão, all of whom registered 17 contributions in 2024.

While Thuram featured in 34 matches and De Ketelaere played a full 38 games, Lookman achieved his numbers in just 28 games.

The influential forward missed six weeks of action early in the year, representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d'Ivoire. Later, a transfer dispute kept him sidelined for Atalanta’s opening three games of the current campaign.

Upon his return after the transfer dispute, Lookman wasted no time making an impact, scoring and assisting in a dramatic 3-2 win over Fiorentina.

The 26-year-old’s contributions were not just prolific but decisive, helping Atalanta remain competitive in Serie A.

Adding to his accolades, Lookman was named African Footballer of the Year in December, a fitting recognition for a player whose influence extends beyond Italy.
