Former Super Eagles and Chelsea defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel has urged Manchester United to go all out for a coach with ‘personality’, Afrik Foot reports.
The Red Devils parted ways with Ruben Amorim at the start of the year after the Portuguese struggled to make an impact despite insisting on playing a system that didn’t suit the players.
Manchester United then brought in Michael Carrick on an interim basis, and while the results under the 44-year-old have improved, the loss to Newcastle United has raised questions about the ability of the Englishman to take on a permanent role at Old Trafford.

Mikel Obi calls on Manchester United to hire Roberto De Zerbi
The former Brighton and Hove Albion coach made a name for himself with his playing style during his time in the English Premier League before elevating Marseille to becoming a Champions League side again.
However, for all of his tactical brilliance, the Italian manager maintains a strict routine and holds a tough personality, and Mikel believes that is exactly what Manchester United needs.
“I thought Thomas Tuchel would’ve been the guy, but now that he’s signed a new deal, I believe Carlo Ancelotti can be that guy.
“Because I know Carlo, he’s absolutely superb in terms of man management. He knows how to get the best of players, how to speak to people, but if they don’t get him, De Zerbi,” Mikel said on the Obi One podcast.

“I like the style of play that he adopts. He’s a lunatic, and I think that’s what the club needs.
“Someone who’s strong personality wise and can bring the best out of the players.
“Michael Carrick has done very well to put his name on top of the list. He’s cool, very calm on the touchline, and the way he conducts himself.
“There’s Eddie Howe as well, but I just think he can’t take this club any higher,” the AFCON 2013 winner concluded.
